Robert, Anne, and Henry Tann, 2004

I chose the portrait, "Robert, Anne, and Henry Tann" by Antony Williams to write about. As I was looking through the book, this picture seemed to capture my attention the most. This picture shows an average family that consists of a father, mother, and a child. What is strange about this picture is that they are all sitting down and have blank expressions on their faces. In fact, this picture captures each person looking at "different locations, suggesting something about the dynamic within the family". I found this very interesting because it makes you wonder what each family member is thinking about as they stare out into space. Williams uses egg tempera because it allows him "to express a feeling [that he has] about the look of the world." Therefore, this painting might show how he portrays the appearance of an average family.
